Chemical Fume Hoods and Energy Conservation

April 22, 2022 | 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
Virtual

Learn how chemical fume hoods function and what steps your lab can take to reduce its energy consumption.

Some of the most energy intensive buildings on the MIT campus consume so much energy because of the need to heat or cool air that can be quickly removed from the building by exhaust capture devices that are designed to protect people from hazardous materials. Chemical fume hoods are the most commonly used exhaust capture device.

This presentation will discuss how chemical fume hoods function and what steps labs can take to reduce their energy consumption.

Speakers: Jim Doughty, Senior Program Manager, EHS - Industrial Hygiene Program (IHP)
