About: Radiation Protection Program

Overview:

The Radiation Protection Program (RPP) is appointeed authority from the Radiation Protection Committee(RPC). The RPP peforms many functions on and off MIT campus to ensure compliance with regulations and to keep the community safe. 

Program:

The RPP grant authorizations to use Radioacitve Materials to labs and provides support to the labs in security and control of the materials. Some of the processes and procedures that RPP performs to do this are: registering radiation producing equipment, repairs and calibrates radiation survey instruments, performs lab-space surveys, review lab procedures, and conducting radioactive sample analysis.The RPP also provides various training classes in radiation safety, including initial training and authorization specific re-training every two years. RPP staff and technicians monitor workers for radiation exposure, manage radioactive waste, and is available for emergency response 24 hours per day.
